  • joined the 4th Company of 3. (Preuß.) Kraftfahr-Abteilung as a volunteer on 01.03.1933,

  • transferred in October 1935 to the 8th Company of Panzerregiment 1 and pursued the career of an Unteroffizier,

  • served as Unteroffizier and Feldwebel with the 8th Company until March 1941 in a varity of functions,

  • served from March 1941 until June 1941 with Heeres-Unteroffiziersschule Putlos and after that, with Panzer-Ersatz-Abteilung 1,

  • served from October 1941 until December 1941 with the rear services of Army Group Center (Soviet Union) and then again, with Panzer-Ersatz-Abteilung 1,

  • served in1942 as a NCO instructor in occupied France,

  • rejoined Panzerregiment 1 (staff II. Abteilung) in September 1943,

  • transferred in May 1944 to Panzer-Ersatzabteilung 1 and in October the same year to Panzer-Ersatz-Abteilung 500 at Paderborn, training with Panzerkampfwagen VI Tiger and Jagdtiger,

  • served from January 1945 until the end of the war as a platoon leader with schwere Panzerjäger Abteilung 512 (Jagdtiger),

  • US-captivity in Austria until 30.05.1945, last rank: Oberfeldwebel,

  • settled after the war in East Germany and moved in 1954 to West Germany,

  • joined the newly formed Bundeswehr in 1960 and served withPanzerlehrbataillon 93, Heeres-Offizier-Schule and Panzergrenadier-Bataillon 172 in Hamburg,

  • regularly took part in the meetings of 1. Panzerdivision, Panzerregiment 1 as well as in the Volkstrauertag at Panzertruppenschule Munster
